Proven in Europe for over 40 years 10" high x 6" diameter, 15" overall including hanger, 8 lbs.

1-1/2" hole for Eastern Bluebirds, tree swallows.

These birdhouses are made from a unique blend of 75% pine sawdust, burnt clay and other natural materials, formed and baked to provide a nesting home for birds that is healthy for them and which will last for 20 years or more in your garden. This remarkable material actually "breathes" like wood. Yet it is completely rotproof and the non-toxic brown paint on the roof and sides sheds water like a duck's back. Resistant to damage by squirrels and raccoons. Seven models, with entry holes specially sized for American birds.

Bluebird nest boxes in action...

Recently, we carefully removed last year's bluebird nest from a 20 year old Schwegler birdhouse to show you in the video below. While the nest cup was made from soft dry grasses, we were surprised to see it resting on a 2" foundation of hundreds of 1½" fruit stems, perhaps from our crabapple trees. A perfect insulation and drainage material – springy too.

    Schwegler Nest Box

Posted by Joseph on May 14th 2025

I saw Schwegler nest boxes for the first time while on vacation. I saw them in a few parks in Berlin and really liked them. An internet search led to me to the Kinsman website and I ordered one. It had been up less than a month and I have Eastern Bluebirds building a nest in it. It has been my experience that wooden nest boxes need to be up for a year or two before they are used by cavity nesting birds. $50 for a nest box that will last decades is cheap. $30 wooden nest boxes need to be replaced after 4 or 5 years. I am delighted with my purchase.

Love my new birdhouse because it will probably outlive me - that thing is substantial and well built. Easy access for cleaning too. Let's hope the birds like it.

    High Desert Gardener

This is an attractive addition to the garden, and blends well into a natural or more contemporary landscape. It is a heavy birdhouse, and will require a substantial limb or branch if you are going to hang in a tree. I also found hanging it close to a feeder resulted in the birds not coming to the feeder so you likely will want to separate the two if you have both elements in the garden.

This is a very attractive bird house. I placed it on a large tulip poplar facing west. There are many trees in my yard so it is mostly shaded. Sturdy and well made. Thank you.

I had wrens in my bluebird house within a day. Not what I was looking for, but we are enjoying watching the wrens make their nest. They are very busy, sassy birds.
