Hydro Wine 4-pack Watering Spike System
I have potted plants scattered around the house to add bits of color all year 'round. On vacations, our 'hose' watering system never seemed to work well. The plants were either flooded or drooping from lack of the right amount of water. So, I tried the Hydro wine spikes for one trip. They worked perfectly. Encouraged, I bought 20 of the watering spikes and asked friends to give me their empty wine bottles. I learned to put dark green wine bottles in pots where there's sun. The lighter green bottles and clear ones work well with plants in the shade. The spikes have saved the amount of water used to keep plants happy, and they make a great conversation topic. Unlike the photo, I suggest digging a hole so that most of the spike is in the ground, almost up the spike's "collar". This offers the best balance in case curious squirrels come around.

Another plant saver. I can put one or a few of these in a pot (depending on the size of pot and type of plant) and my plants can survive several days or more, even during a drought. They make great gifts too.

Happy to add during newly refilling Hayrack
My old hayrack system finally needed complete refilling. Nobody carried the exact size for the new liner except Kinsman. I had the benefit of being able to also add the rain mats and the terrracotta hydrowine watering tubes as I made completely new plantings. Finally I have a way to keep my plantings watered while I am away.

Use the correct wine bottle
Like many other who have reviewed the terra cotta watering spike system, I too have had problems with breakage. I either pushed the spike into the ground with the bottle already on the spike or when the bottle was empty and I went to refill, the bottle was stuck on the spike. As others have noted - push the watering spike into the ground or pot/bag before adding the filled wine bottle. Also I have found that a red wine bottle has a different shape with a long neck that fits the spike a little better than a white wine bottle and does not get stuck. Also remember that the spike is absorbing water so it will shrink when it is dry and be easier to remove from the bottle. One of my family members also has good luck using larger wine bottles 1 liter or larger versus 750 ml.

Excellent Product!
These watering spikes work very well! They saved the plants in my patio pots during a drought while I was on vacation and could not water them. Simple to use, reusable, and effective. I'm purchasing a second set of them I like them so well.

The best
I purchased a set of these spikes to see how they would work. They are awesome. Allow just enough water but we live in a very hot climate and the water heats up so when we are gone I will have to move the plants to a shady area. I am ordering a second set for my potted cactus.
